ChapmanBDSP partners with university for innovative project

ChapmanBDSP has partnered with the University of Westminster for an innovative project that hopes to inspire students and create design solutions for the engineering industry.

The Collaborative Thesis Project with Industry has paired aspiring architects and engineers with Kartikeya Rajput, senior environmental consultant at ChapmanBDSP.

As part of their thesis, Masters students have been working on topics of common interest between academics and the industry and Kartikeya is mentoring students who are looking at the sustainable retrofit of a world heritage site, the Kasbah of Algiers, and also investigating spatial mapping of environmental comfort.

Kartikeya met his group on Tuesday, May 8, and contributed in his role as ‘industry reviewer’, joining a panel of academics and professionals. He will also attend a further session next month before the team present their ideas at a special presentation seminar in July. He said: 'The ingenuity of this programme will align Industrial knowledge and academic exploration. We are looking forward to the exciting days of mentoring, Knowledge sharing and watching our students grow.”

The collaboration was initiated by Dr Rosa Schiano-Phan, course leader in the Department of Architecture at University of Westminster. She said: “The project was developed with the aim of enhancing the students’ learning experience and providing them with a first-hand contact with the consultancy and architectural practice world.

"The identification of relevant topic of research which are of mutual interest to industry and academia are developed within highly professional settings, giving students the opportunity to sample their future work environments. The combination of the varied and global context of our international cohorts with the far-reaching interests of the industry produces cutting edge outcomes and facilitates knowledge transfer. The MSc Architecture and Environmental Design is delighted to be in partnership with ChapmanBDSP in this initiative and students are looking forward to working with Kartikeya Rajput in the coming months.”

ChapmanBDSP is a growing building services and environmental consultancy that has delivered world-class projects in more than 30 countries.

It creates award-winning design solutions - on large mixed-use developments through to one-off private residences - that make buildings more sustainable.

The collaborative initiative, piloted last year for the first time, allows students to develop themes of mutual interest for the course and industry partners.

The Architecture and Environmental Design MSc course at the University of Westminster seeks to address the lack of environmental criteria and evidence-based approach in the creative design process and adapts to industry, research, developments and trends.
