GE Ecomagination Center

Abu Dhabi, UAE

The aim of the design was to seamlessly integrate all of these functions together with a unique atmosphere of innovation, problem solving, research and education. The Centre also serves as a hub for localized innovation that involves all key stakeholders including GE’s partners, educational institutions and the local community.

Inspired by the location within Masdar City, the design of the centre is organised around a series of points, lines and surfaces to create opportunities for interaction, as well as establishing a fluid journey around the floor plate to ensure the visitor experiences all aspects of GE Innovation. A key feature is the 14sqm interactive table combining physical elements, interactive screens, projection and voice-over.

In keeping with the sustainability theme of the project, the MEP services adhere to stringent client and landlord sustainability requirements in terms of energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor air quality, use of renewable or recycled materials and intelligent lighting/HVAC controls. Close coordination with the Media and Technology Consultants throughout the fast track programme was crucial to ensure seamless integration of all services and enhanced visitor experience.

This project won the MENA Interior Design & Architecture Awards for 'Best Corporate Space'.

GE Ecomagination Center

“Masdar City provides a very apt environment to house the center, being as it is one of the few zero carbon and self-sufficient cities in the world. The brief included designing a contemporary space to serve as a hub for localised innovation; integrating educational opportunities into the community at large”.
